Ways to Help Your Pet Beat the Heat this Summer
We are proud to be a pet-friendly apartment community here at 13 Twenty-Four, so if you have a pet, help them beat the heat in or out of the apartment in Kalamazoo, MI this summer with these simple but effective summer pet care tips.
Be aware of the effects of heat.
Whether a day is overcast, rainy, or sunny, we’re still experiencing higher temperatures and sunny days, and the weather can still take its toll on animals. Get yourself in the habit of making small adjustments to your schedule and regular pet care to prevent serious problems. Brush up on heat stroke signs and prevention methods so you can recognize the signs if and when they appear. The more you’re aware of the dangers, the better you can catch symptoms before they worsen!
Take care of your pet’s physical needs.
Animals, especially active dogs, still need exercise in the summertime, so prioritize their health — but without sacrificing their comfort. Trim especially long coats and brush, bathe, and groom them often. If you and your pet are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, see if your pet needs sunscreen. Consult with your veterinarian for some good ones if you’re not sure which are best for your pet. Always keep bottles far out of your pet’s reach so they don’t ingest it later. And of course, keep plenty of water easily accessible to your pet at all times of the day.
Beware summer insects!
It’s easy to forget about insects — until they suddenly become a problem. Vet Street has the rundown on summer insects that can cause problems for you and your pet, so read through to see how you can recognize signs of insect bites and infestations. A lot of the time you can’t do much to prevent these problems, but staying on top of the problem will definitely help keep your pet and your apartment clean and healthy throughout the season.
