Tips for Enjoying Your Patio or Balcony

Furnished Balcony Space

Welcome back to the 13 Twenty-Four Blog! We hope you enjoy all the amenities available to you here at our Kalamazoo, MI apartment community. Today we have tips for helping you do so with one apartment amenity you may have: a patio or balcony! Try these ideas for decorating or making use of your patio or balcony as the summer closes and fall starts to fall upon us.

Create a miniature fairy garden.

Purchase a fairy garden kit or gather supplies at a local craft store to add a touch of whimsy to your patio or balcony. Find a container you like, such as a bakers rack, terra cotta pots, old-fashioned orange crates, an old-fashioned wagon, a bird bath, a tub, the center of a cinder block, a wicker basket, an old sink, a tin tub, half a whiskey barrel, a tin bucket, hanging flower baskets, an old wheelbarrow, or a fountain. Find more miniature items you might need at Fairy Garden Supplies from Oriental Trading, and get inspired!

Add plants.

Bring a touch of the outdoors into your apartment via your balcony or patio by adding plants to it. A bonus is that depending on the plants chosen, you can also add a pleasant aroma to your space. HGTV provides a handy guide for choosing fragrant flowers and plants. Another way to add some greenery while helping out your cooking is to plant an herb garden. Add seating.

Sometimes you just need a breath of fresh air to really relax, in the summertime or in the middle of a semester of school. Give yourself a change of scenery by making your patio or balcony the place to do it! Add seating according to who you think will be using it — any mix of a couple of chairs, a bench, or even a hammock, according to what fits and what you like!
